Dachshund Through The Snow
Available now for preorder!
I’ve been a dog lover for as long as I can remember. So, after writing and publishing more than 100 books, it only makes sense that I’d finally write a story about my favorite breed of dog — the dachshund. (I grew up with a shorthaired red miniature doxie named Penny. And, since then, I’ve loved Max, Maddie Anne, Freckles, Miller, and our current cutie Mollie Mae.)
But, “Dachshund Through the Snow” was inspired by Miller, our longhaired miniature dachshund who loved to dig and dig and dig! He is in heaven but his memory lives on.
In my story, Crosby is a very tiny dachshund, and though he is known for his small stature, he longs to be known for much more. A skilled burrower, Crosby decides to enter the Arctic Animal Olympics, but he encounters quite a bit of bullying and ends up abandoning the idea of trying out for the burrowing event. Through a series of events, Crosby finds Santa and his reindeer (minus Rudolph) who are stranded by an ice storm, and he ends up saving the day—and ultimately Christmas.
Yes, it’s a super fun Christmas picture book, but more than that, it’s a story about overcoming your greatest fears and realizing that your differences can be your strengths. Crosby realizes that he is more than enough—no matter his size—and that’s what I hope all children discover about themselves when they delve into my book. I want them to realize that no matter their differences, insecurities or challenges, they were created for a purpose, and they are more than enough!
